A 150 pound black bear was spotted in Grand Rapids on Saturday.  The 2-year-old bear was later struck by a car and killed on I-96.

WZZM has the details:

Police say the bear was first spotted around 6:45 p.m. Saturday in the 1000 block of Leffingwell.  Officers caught up to it at Leffingwell and Leonard.  The bear escaped and was again spotted near the Kent Intermediate School District.  He then escaped into a yard in the 1700 block of Leffingwell.  Police say the bear also roamed into the fields of NorthPointe Christian High School and Catholic Central High School before escaping onto Eastbound I-96.  Police say the bear was hit by a vehicle near Knapp Street NE and eventually died.

The DNR estimates the 2-year old male bear, weighed about 150 pounds.  Police say no one was injured by the bear.
