Republicans Visit West Michigan As Election Nears

When the Michigan primaries were moved up to earlier in the year than they traditionally have been the hope was that it would give Michigan a larger role in the primaries.  Mission accomplished.  There will be heavy campaigning going on all over the state this weekend.

Polls have been showing a see-saw battle between Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney for the lead in Michigan, with Ron Paul in third and Newt Gingrich in fourth.

Santorum, Romney, and Paul all have multiple events scheduled around the state over the weekend, including a stop in Kalamazoo for Romney tonight and a stop in Hudsonville for Paul on Sunday.

Romney’s appearance is a town hall meeting at Western Michigan University at 6:45 tonight.

Paul’s appearance is at The Pinnacle Center in Hudsonville from 4:00pm – 5:00pm on Sunday.

Here’s a complete list of scheduled appearances between now and the election, courtesy of The Detroit News:


— 6:30 p.m. Friday. He is at the St. William Dad’s Club 23rd annual Lenten Fish Fry at St. William Catholic Parish, 531 Common St., Walled Lake.

— 8 p.m. Friday. He will hold a rally at the Robert H. Jones Knights of Columbus Council #3078, 25160 W. Outer Drive, Lincoln Park.

— 8 a.m. Saturday. Santorum will participate in a Tea Party Rally at the Barrister Gardens, 24225 Harper Ave., St. Clair Shores.

— 10 a.m. Saturday. He will address the Americans for Prosperity Presidential Forum at the San Marino Club, 1685 E. Big Beaver, Troy.


— 12:15 p.m. Friday. Romney addresses Detroit Economic Club at Ford Field, 2000 Brush St., Detroit.

— 7:10 p.m. He holds a town hall meeting at Western Michigan University, 1903 W. Michigan Ave.,


— 9:35 a.m. Saturday. Romney will speak at the Ingham Lincoln Day Breakfast at the Chisolm Hills Banquet Center, 2395 Washington Road, Lansing.

— 12:20 p.m. Saturday. Romney will deliver remarks at the Americans for Prosperity Event at the San Marino Club, 1685 E. Big Beaver Road, Troy.

— 3:30 p.m. Saturday. He is at a Flint Grassroots Rally at the Kettering University Recreation Center, 1700 W. 3rd Ave., Flint.

— 6:45 p.m. Sunday. Romney will speak at a rally at the Dome, the Park Place Hotel, 300 E. State St., Traverse City.


— 6 p.m. Saturday. Paul will speak at a rally at Plachta Auditorium at Central Michigan University (located in Warriner Hall), Mount Pleasant.

— 4 p.m. Sunday. He will speak at a rally for Freedom and Jobs in Michigan at the Pinnacle Center, 3330 Highland Road, Hudsonville (near Grand Rapids).

— 11 a.m. Monday. Paul will appear at a rally at Little Rock Baptist Church, 9000 Woodward Ave., Detroit.

— 4 p.m. Monday. The candidate will speak at a rally at Michigan State University Auditorium, 149 Auditorium, East Lansing.

— 7 p.m. Monday. Paul will speak at the Michael A. Guido Theater, Dearborn Ford Community and Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Ave., Dearborn.
