Ahh, yes. With the snow we had this weekend, I'm reminded about how great it feels to sit inside my one bedroom apartment and let my TV take over. Yes, I've actually been prepping for the cold weather by lining up different shows on Netflix and Amazon Prime. Here are the top five to get you through the winter.

'The Man in the High Castle'

You will find this one on Amazon Prime. No need to subscribe for full membership. Do what I'm doing, get the 30 day free trial and start bingeing.

The premise of this hour-long alternate history series is pretty wild. Imagine if the Japanese and Nazi Germany won World War II. It's 1962 and the United States is split into three zones. The Japanese Pacific States (the Rockies West), the Greater Nazi Reich (The Rockies East), and the Neutral Zone in between. Both sides are trying to stop the resistance from transporting newsreels that show the United States winning the war. What's that all about?

So far I've knocked back two episodes, and it's pretty intense. I should mention it's based on a 1962 book of the same name, written by Philip Dick.

    'Parks and Recreation'

People, I cannot in good faith give you a list of the top 5 shows to binge this winter without giving you some comfort food.

Easily the most underrated TV show in NBC history is on Netflix. Parks and Recreation starts out a bit annoying in season one, but really captures what it's like to work with the public. It kind of follows a philosophy I have, people alone are smart, people in large groups can be horribly stupid.

The series follow Leslie Knope, the deputy director of the parks department in Pawnie, Indiana. Knope is in love with her town and will do anything to make it better, as in life, not everything goes her way. The color characters she has working behind her help to keep things positive, while the public and other government officials keep things challenging. If you want to understand the Ron Swanson jokes people make, or see Chris Pratt prior to getting ripped, this is your show.

Each episode runs 22 minutes, and we have yet to see the 7th, and final, season hit Netflix.

I recommend this about midway through the winter when you're getting slightly depressed from the cold weather and snow.

    'Longmire'

Holy crap this is a great show!

Longmire is practically a new era western. It features a small town sheriff in Absaroka County, Wyoming. Walt Longmire, together with his three deputies, are working to solve major crimes that occur in his county. Walt returns to work after the death of his wife and struggles to keep up. Then a plot twist, what really happened to his wife?

The show stars Robert Taylor as Walt Longmire, and Lou Diamond Phillips as Walt's friend, who has connections to the Cheyenne reservation. The show started as a series on A&E, and then was picked up by Netflix. The cool part is once you get passed the A&E produced episodes each show is a full hour.

The cinematography of this show is right up there with shows like Breaking Bad, you'll be hooked after the first couple of episodes.

Don't worry if you get through all four seasons, Netflix will be releasing the fifth season soon.

    'Master of None'

Again, we're going to head over to Netflix, for another original! Aziz Ansari's Master of None.

I wasn't sure how I felt about this series when I started it in mid November, but I've really grown attached. It follows Aziz and his single 30-something friends as they make their way through life. I would almost compare this to Louis C.K.'s FX series, but for 32-year-old singles (where Louis' show relates more to middle aged single fathers).

I'll say this, if you're single, in your 30s this is a must watch.

    'The Office'

I would never ever skip suggesting The Office on your winter binge list.

I'm not even going to explain myself, it's comfort food, it's amazing and it was the best show that ever graced my television.
