First he lost his bid for mayor of  Grand Rapids, and now Paul Gionfriddo is facing drug charges.

Gionfriddo, ran his campaign based on a plan to add several new city commissioners He was arrested at his home on Monday morning, according to jail records.

Gionfriddo was charged with delivering and/or manufacturing marijuana, and as a habitual offender, which doubles the possible penalty of the crime. Jail records indicate this is the second time that he has been arrested for this type of offense.

It is not clear where or when his previous crime took place or what the charges were.

The maximum sentence for the charge he currently faces depends on the amount of drugs involved.

As of Tuesday morning, he is being held in the Kent County jail on $4,000 bond.

If he'd won the election, Gionfriddo would have been taken office on January 1st, but he was defeated by current Mayor George Heartwell.
