BREAKING: Video Released Shows Moment Unmarked MSP Vehicle Hit And Kills Kentwood Man

A man wanted on multiple felony warrants was killed after being struck by an unmarked police cruiser during a foot pursuit in Kentwood, Michigan.

The incident happended on Wednesday, April 17th, when members of the Michigan State Police (MSP) Sixth District Fugitive Team, along with officers from the Kentwood, Wyoming, and Grand Rapids police departments, the Michigan Department of Corrections, and the U.S. Marshals Service, were attempting to locate and arrest the suspect, identified as Samuel Sterling.

According to the official statement from MSP Director Col. James F. Grady II, the officers spotted Sterling at a gas station on 52nd Street and Eastern Avenue, where he was putting air in a vehicle's tires.

When the officers approached him, Sterling fled on foot, prompting a chase.

During the pursuit, an MSP officer in an unmarked vehicle drove parallel to Sterling, and the two parties converged in the parking lot of a nearby Burger King.

It was there that the unmarked police cruiser struck Sterling, causing him serious injuries.

Emergency medical personnel were called to the scene, and Sterling was transported to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

In his statement, Col. Grady acknowledged the gravity of the situation, noting that as an African American male and a father, he understands the significance of this incident involving the death of another young African American man following an interaction with law enforcement.

He assured the community that the investigation into the incident will be "thorough and objective," and that the MSP's role is to be "finders of fact and to compile those facts in an objective manner."
