With people camping out for the grand opening of a new Chick-fil-A in Lansing this week, it seems Michiganders are pretty keen on the restaurant chain. But now it looks like one proposed Grand Rapids' locations won't be happening.

MLive reports that the Grand Rapids Planning Commission voted unanimously Thursday to deny the request to build a Chick-fil-A on land formerly occupied by Fajita Republic on the East Beltline, just north of Knapp's Corner. The commission had a few issues with Chick-fil-A's proposal, but the main problem was the drive-thru.

They deemed that a drive-thru would be inconsistent with the initial plan for the location, which was to be pedestrian-oriented. Concerns about traffic congestion were also cited.

According to MLive, former City Commissioner Lynn Rabaut said,

"Nobody will tell you Chick-fil-A is a bad business, It's a great business. It's all over the place, people love it. Drive-thru restaurants in general, especially free-standing ones, do nothing but create trash and create traffic nightmares."
