The arraignment of a man suspected of shooting and killing a Michigan State Police trooper has been delayed. Mason County District Court Magistrate Patricia Baker told WZZM-13 that Eric Knysz is having more surgery and will not be able to be arraigned on Thursday as planned.

Knysz, who is 19-years-old, is being guarded by police at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City while he recovers from a gunshot wound he received prior to his arrest on Monday.

Knysz is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Trooper Paul Butterfield, who was shot in the head during a traffic stop Monday about 80 miles north of Grand Rapids.

Twenty-year-old Sarah Knysz has been charged with helping her husband try to escape. Her mother claims that she, too, is a victim in all of this.

Butterfield's funeral is Saturday at Manistee High School.
