Purdue University officials confirmed Tuesday night that one man was fatally shot and one suspect was taken into custody following a shooting that occurred on campus around noon Tuesday.
"Our police reacted quickly, and the university alert notification system was activated immediately," said Tim Sands, Purdue's provost. "Our primary concern was to secure the building and make sure students were safe."
Cody M. Cousins, 23, walked into an Electrical Engineering Building classroom, firing several shots and killing 21-year-old Andrew F. Boldt, Purdue Police Chief John Cox said.
Cox confirmed that both men are students at Purdue, but the connection between the two is not completely clear.
