Michigan Bar Owners May Ban Lawmakers Over Smoking Ban

Bar and restaurant owners who are upset about Michigan's workplace smoking ban have dreamed up a ban of their own to fight back.

An organization called Protect Private Property Rights in Michigan claim  that roughly 500 bars statewide plan to ban state lawmakers from their establishments starting September 1st.

In the battle against obesity Michigan is losing, not losing weight, just losing.   In a report issued today, Michigan is ranked the 10th most obese state in the country with an obesity rate is 30.5%.

Michigan Senate Approves Motorcycle Helmet Law Change

A proposal to allow some motorcycle riders to go without a helmet has been approved by the Michigan Senate.

The measure was approved Tuesday by a 24-14 vote and it will allow riders 21 or older to ride without a helmet  if they have been licensed to operate a motorcycle for at least two years or have passed a safety course. Motorcyclists wishing to ride without a helmet also will need extra insurance coverage.

With automotive sales finally rebounding from a decade of decline, 3 Big Three are poised to start hiring again.  Over the next five years Ford, GM, and Chrysler are expected to hire 35,000 new employees.  The growth will take place almost exclusively in Michigan, while jobs most likely declining outside of the state .  Their are no announcements made as to where in Michigan the majority of the hirings will take place.
