ArtPrize begins September 18, but it's been a busy couple of weeks for the art competition. Venue registration closed, artist registration began, and a new executive director was named. Christian Gaines, the new executive director of ArtPrize, has a strong background working with films. Is his hiring an indication that film is about to become a much bigger part of ArtPrize?

ArtPrize has been a huge thing for the city of Grand Rapids and it isn't going anywhere any time soon. Organizers announced Wednesday morning that they have already set the dates from 2013 through 2017.

Grand Rapids is getting more national attention. This time, stemming from ArtPrize. Time listed Grand Rapids' ArtPrize as a top five festive event that people won't want to miss in 2013. But, somehow, Grand Rapids as a city didn't come across that well.

This weekend is our last chance to enjoy ArtPrize 2012. The winners, from the jury and the people's vote, will be popular destinations.  But there are many other options and ways to experience ArtPrize 2012 one last time. Take a look at some of the highlights of the final weekend of ArtPrize 2012.

Robin Protz's ArtPrize entry "The Dragon" has been disqualified from ArtPrize. The popular piece remains on display at the Amway Grand. "The Dragon" had been in the Top 25, but was disqualified before the Top 10 was announced.

September 28 to September 30 will be the biggest and busiest weekend of ArtPrize. There will be a rush of people trying to get one last look at entries before first round voting ends at 11:59pm on Saturday, September 29.  Then we'll have a rush of people to see the Top 10 after it is announced on Sunday. As ArtPrize continues to roll along for 2012, one thing is very clear.  It truly is a community event.  And it's wide reach is noticed around the country, if not the world. At ArtPrize, you'll find remarkable work, and some unbelievable work...

ArtPrize teaches us that the beauty of art is in the eye of the beholder.  So is the humor.
