April 6, 2011 Tonight's episode of 'American Idol' is all about the rock and roll.
To honor the genre, the remaining nine contestants will each sing a song from the Hall of Fame's 'Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll' list, which includes over 650 tracks.

Adding to the spookiness is a leaky roof and floating sheets. You couldn't make this stuff up, unless maybe your were a producer for 'American Idol'...

For the first time ever, a contestant on American Idol sang a song from '90s grunge-gods Nirvana. Casey Abrams, who missed a show last week when he was hospitalized for a bowel condition, kept the drama going on Wednesday night's telecast with his out-of-left-field selection of "Smell's Like Teen Spirit."
The reactions from judges Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson to Abrams' performance were very positive. Jennifer Lopez was a bit less enthusiastic, although she stated she still "loved" Abrams.

American Idol is winding down and the top 13 were announced last night. This morning on the show, Kidd Kraddick had on former Idol contestant Tim Halperin. They talked about Tim's thoughts on the rest of the contestants left on Idol and a little bit about his experience on the show. Tim also belted out a few tunes and gave some info on a free download of one of his songs (you can grab that here). Whew! Stefano Langone, Ashton Jones and Naima Adedapo made American Idol's Top 13 last night!
I think I fell in love with Stefano's sweetness as he sang his heart out for the judges to win a wildcard seat to make the final cut before the show is strictly run by viewer votes! The lyrics to the song he tenderly sang were also music to my ears.

The latest karaoke style television show debuts this year. It's known as X-Factor and is already a huge success over seas. The show is produced and paneled by American Idol visionary, Simon Cowell. It is the same style show as American Idol with one key difference, the judges mentor the singers as well as judge them.
Kidd Kraddick had Simon on the show this morning to talk about X-Factor. They discussed the format of the show, including how exactly the mentoring will work. The show will air this September on Fox. One juicy tidbit Simon mentioned was that other networks were pretty aggressive about getting the show and wanted X-Factor to go head to head with Idol. I think it's safe to say that he had a special place in all our hearts and you can't help but cry along with J-Lo after she made the final decision to let American Idol contestant, Chris Medina, go home after a less than stellar performance in Vegas.

February 24, 2011 Gone are the days when you could only call or text in to vote for your favorites on American Idol. They announced today that you will now be able to vote online!
The online voting will start on Tuesday night after the show and you will be able to vote at AmericanIdol.com, but only if you have a Facebook account. Fans will be required to log in through their Facebook accounts to access the voting page and can cast up to 50 online votes for that evening's performances.
February 17, 2011 Group night on "American Idol" is notoriously difficult, and Tuesday night's performances took down a lot of contestants at Hollywood Week. But one group stood out for both the quality of their voices and their ages -- they were all 15 or 16 years old.
