Cities like Memphis, Omaha, and Kansas City have open container districts where patrons can travel from bar to bar with drinks. Should we have one in downtown GR?
MLive compiled a list of the bars in Michigan that buy and sell and lot of alcohol each year, and Detroit dominates the entire list. Not a surprise, since you probably have to drink a lot to be able to live in Detroit, haha! But last year, one Grand Rapids business not only shows up in the top 20, but is number two in the state in alcohol sales!
If passed, a new bill would raise the beer tax in Michigan by 244%.
The bill was pitched by a West Michigan representative, from Byron Center, earlier this week. Under his plan, the additional money would go towards drug and alcohol programs, courts and substance issues as a whole, including combating underage drinking and alcohol-related crimes...
It's not a fun thing to hear that you turn into kind of an ass when you drink but there is an upside to it... somewhat.
