A 17-year-old boy from Benton Harbor died this past weekend after jumping into Lake Michigan and drowning.

Mlive.com reports that the incident occurred on Saturday, June 11th at the St. Joseph Pier. Police discovered Travonne Shannon in 14 feet of water, two hours after the emergency was called in. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to a press release from the Berrien County Sheriff's Department, Shannon was jumping off the pier with a relative. He had made several jumps into the lake before drowning.

The release also reminds people the danger of jumping off the pier.
