Some of them were able to bag a doe or a buck, but one Michigan teen got a deer that he will remember forever.

Caleb Bostic started the opening day of firearm season with an eight-point buck and things only got better from there.

In hunting terminology, the "points" on a buck, which is a male deer, refer to the individual tines of the buck's antlers. A tine is any growth off a main beam of the antler, and it has to be at least one inch long to be counted as a point. Nubs or growths less than an inch do not count as points. The tip of the main beam is also considered a point.

In some areas, wildlife management agencies have instituted “point limits,” meaning that bucks must have a certain number of points in order to be taken. These point limits usually refer to the points on one antler only, and they are designed to keep deer populations strong.

Big Buck Alert: Michigan Teen Bags 16 Pointer

Caleb Bostic started the opening day of firearm season with an eight-point buck and just five minutes later shot a 16-point buck.

When asked about the 16-point buck Caleb told WILX 10

“Hopefully, a big buck like that will inspire other kids to get out and give it a try.”

He's not the only one that's hoping younger people will become interested in hunting. According to the Michigan DNR In the year 2000, Michigan had 800,000 licensed hunters. Today, it's closer to 550,000.
