Karl Lagerfeld Calls Adele ‘Too Fat,’ Noel Gallagher Says Her Success Won’t Last

Harsh words for Adele from former Oasis singer Noel Gallagher and fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld: Gallagher says she’s a flash in the pan, while Lagerfeld bluntly says she’s “too fat.”

The outspoken Oasis frontman’s comments came as part of a larger diatribe in which he argued that women just can’t stick around in this business. “I feel sorry for girls in the music industry. They do have a very short shelf life,” he claimed. “For instance, Duffy: who? Gone. She was massive. And I don’t doubt for a second that the same thing will happen to Adele.”

Gallagher has a point about Duffy, the Welsh singer who won a Grammy in 2009 but flopped with her sophomore album. But his suggestion that women can’t last in the music industry? We probably don’t even need to start naming names to disprove that one. With Adele’s massive voice and massive fan base, it’s hard to imagine that she won’t be a huge star for years to come.

Lagerfeld mentioned Adele in an interview when he was asked about Lana Del Rey. “I prefer Adele and Florence Welch,” he replied. “The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice.”

Of course, the 78-year-old Lagerfeld comes from a strange world where anyone larger than a size 2 is considered to be carrying too much weight. And Gallagher hasn’t been the poster child for consistency, at least in this country — Oasis hasn’t scored a U.S. hit since 1998. We’re guessing Adele won’t be losing much sleep over this new round of insults.
