New ‘Flowers in the Attic’ Trailer Is Super Creepy
‘Flowers in the Attic’ is a controversial novel, due to its themes of incest and other forms of child endangerment. The 1987 film adaptation starring Kristy Swanson was creeptastic, and the new Lifetime remake seems like it will live up to the shocking nature of its source material and its predecessor.
While Lifetime is known for its chicks-in-distress flicks, it’s taking a left turn with this remake, starring Heather Graham as a newly-widowed mother of four who must seek the forgiveness of her estranged, puritanical mother, played to perfection by Ellen Burstyn. She does so in order to reclaim her spot in the will.
She must keep her children sequestered in an attic while she works to regain her father’s love. He disapproved of her choice of husband and can’t know about the kids; that’s why they’re hidden.
The talent is A-list — Kiernan Shipka, who plays Sally on ‘Mad Men,’ also stars in the movie — and the trailer looks scary, not campy.
The film premieres on the network on Jan. 18
