False Alarm: Kanye West’s ‘Black American Psycho’ Album Isn’t Real

Kanye West only just dropped his G.O.O.D. Music ‘Cruel Summer‘ compilation, so when it was announced that the ‘Way Too Cold’ rapper would drop a solo effort entitled ‘Black American Psycho’ on Oct. 23, many were surprised and skeptical if only because it happened so quickly. Turns out, that skepticism was warranted: It’s not real!

Rumors spread like wildfire when a website,, emerged. There was nothing on the page except white background and red text reading, “Kanye West Presents ‘Black American Psycho,’ 10.23.2012.” A red blood splatter was right below the text. The simple but effective graphics were pretty believable coming from the design-oriented MC, so we’re not terribly surprised that the rumor caught on.

However, this morning, the same website disclaimed any connection to West or his record label. The image was removed and replaced with text reading, “This website is in no way affiliated with Def Jam Records or Kanye West. The ‘Black American Psycho’ title and the 10.23.2012 release date are fictitious. I created the website a while ago as part of a school project. I apologize for misleading people, I did not expect the site to generate so much traffic and be taken seriously.” We hope this person got an A on their project, because this was huge, if only for a few hours!

West is still promoting ‘Cruel Summer’ with his clique, but maintaining a “no press” policy. “We take it really serious that we make the best product we can, but also we’re light with it too,” he said of the compilation. “We just wanna have fun and commune and festivalize — I’m not sure if that’s currently a word but it will be afterwards.”

Unfortunately for those of you hoping for a Bret Easton Ellis-inspired concept album, Yeezy’s not on board.
