After three years of being in the national spotlight, Casey Anthony was found not guilty of killing her 2-year old daughter, Caylee. The verdict was reached today (July 5) after 10 hours of deliberations. Had Casey been found guilty, she would have faced the death penalty.

Casey was charged with first-degree murder, aggravated manslaugter, aggravated child abuse and four counts of lying to the police. The 25-year old was acquitted of all charges except for providing false information to authorities. Judge Belvin Perry will sentence Casey on July 6.

The high-profile case was filled with drama after Caylee Anthony went missing in Orlando, FL in June of 2008. Casey gave conflicting reports to police, including lying about her employment at Universal Studios and claiming that a nanny named Zanny kidnapped her daughter. Casey later admitted that she was fired from Universal years ago and there was never a nanny.

Caylee’s skeletal remains were found in December of 2008. Casey’s defense claimed that Caylee accidentally drowned in her grandparents’ pool and Casey’s father, George Anthony, tried to cover it up. Defense attorney Jose Baez also alleged that George Anthony sexually abused his daughter since she was 8-years old. However, no proof was provided to confirm the allegations.
