I grew up in South Haven, Michigan.  Gotta love the lakeshore. Still feel a yearning for the beach, pretty much daily.  Graduated from Calvin College in '06. Started at Townsquare Media as intern several years ago and have loved serving in Production, Promotions, and currently, on-air.  Big fan of crime TV, my own rude and feisty cat, the beach (you may have thought I covered that already, but I really really love it, OK?), reading,  people watching , and my dear dear family.

Moms Get Credit in “Thank You Mom” Viral Video

If you forgot to get your mom a card this Mother's Day, you could always just make a viral video thanking her for all the cool stuff she does... like helping you get out of jail? Or covering for you that time you burned down a forrest? Huh?! Ok, so maybe some of the people in this video  have some issues, and apparently, some super-understanding mothers. But they all just want to give a shout out to mom for being awesome.

Happy Mother’s Day! Michigan Momma Cat Adopts Baby Squirrel (Video)

A mother's love know no bounds... or species, it appears. 8-year-old Bailee Shultz was playing in his grandparents' backyard in Bangor, Michigan when he heard something crying. An investigation turned up a tiny squirrel, less than a week old, who had fallen from it's nest. They worried the little guy wouldn't make it. Bailee's mom, Stephanie, decided to try something. Her cat, Oreo, had just given birth to 5 kittens. What if they put the baby squirrel in with the litter?

Disabled Vet Makes Inspiring Recovery (Video)

With all the videos circulating the internet, so many can get lost in the the clutter. Here is one with an incredibly inspiring story that stands out: Arthur Boorman, 47,  was a disabled veteran of the Gulf War. Injured in his service as a paratrooper, he was told by doctors that he would never be able to walk on his own again. Depressed, Arthur gained weight, and almost gave up. Almost. Watch the video to see his amazing progress as he decides to keep fighting.

Yep. You read that correctly. In the latest from the "WTF?!" files a mother in Utah is facing felony charges after investigators say she took nude photographs of her  13-year-old daughter, fully aware the girl intended to send them to a man in Oregon. A 30-year-old man in Oregon.

Scorned Dentist Pulls out ALL Ex-Boyfriend’s Teeth

They say looking good is the best revenge. Well, a dentist in Poland decided to go another route--  She pulled out all of her ex-boyfriend's teeth.  Safe to say the break-up was a bad one then?

Baby Makes Best Grossed-Out Faces Ever [Video]

Usually kids aren't the biggest fans of vegetables. This is why parents have to trick them with "airplane fork" or "choo-choo train spoon". For me, my dad's clever method of "daring" me-- I bet you won't eat that. I'm sure you can't finish your broccoli-- got me every time. Challenge accepted, Pops, I will absolutely kill all this broccoli! Well, the little one in this video is also not a fan of her greens. And you can tell by the absolutely horrendous faces she makes while choking them down.

Woman Single Handedly Stops Creepy Flasher (Video)

Luckily, I have never been in a situation in which I am getting flashed. While I'm not entirely sure how I'd respond to a creeper exposing his genitals, I probably would not have balls (no pun intended) like the 24-year-old woman in Boston who literally grabbed a flasher and held him until police arrived. Talk about girl power!

Cute Toddler Avoids Chores with “It’s Too Heavy!” Act (Video)

Kids having meltdowns usually aren't adorable. I'm not a parent, but I can imagine it could be rather irritating, not to mention embarrassing if you're in public. That said-- the fit 3 year old Kirsten throws to get out of helping clear the table might be the exception. Seriously, check out these acting skills!

The “Michigan Accent”– It Exists!

A man approached me in a gas station this past week, asking for directions. I got about 3 words out of my mouth before he interrupted me with: "Do you have an accent?" Taken aback, I said, "Uhhh... I don't think so?" He explained he was from California and totally thought I had a "Michigan accent". I smiled and finished giving him directions but secretly thought, "I don't have an accent you weirdo, you do." I think it's pretty common for those of us native to Michigan to think we don't have an accent and it's everyone else who sounds funny. Well, I came across a blog that breaks down the Michigan accent. After trying out a few of the examples I can totally hear it... Fellow Michiganders, we do have an accent! And, some pretty odd slang terms too.

Epic Marriage Proposal Video

I've got a thing with marriage proposals-- they just make me all weepy and sentimental. Hey, for some people it's Hallmark commercials or sappy love songs. Well, I get a little misty over "Will you Marry Me?" This video is no exception. Yes, it is over-the-top impressive with a dance-floor single, a marching band, slick costume changes and super tight choreographed moves-- but what gets me is how much this guy must love his partner to go to all this trouble!

Pour a Glass– April is Michigan Wine Month!

Things I learned on facebook today-- April is "Michigan Wine Month", as so declared by Governor Rick Snyder. The idea is to honor Michigan's wide selection of quality wines and the wine industry's significant contribution to the economy. So, let's pop a cork and celebrate!

8-Year-Old Uses App to Solve Crime (Video)

After his family's Tennessee  home was burglarized, 8-year-old Landon Crabtree decided to do something about it. Among the items taken were two iPads. The clever kid did some  internet searching and found an app that would help him locate his stolen property. A modern day Encyclopedia Brown, right? (Side note: those  who get that reference may also  appreciate Wendy's recent blog about The Babysitter's Club.)
