Two words: Scabies and lice.

My mom taught me well, ALWAYS wash your new clothes before wearing them. Her reason was always, "because you never know who tried those on." Best advice ever. I have first hand experience as to why I wash all my new clothes, I'll tell you at the end of the story.

First, let me tell you about this article that will have you itching.

In a story published by The Wall Street Journal, experts in dermatology chime in on whether or not to wash new clothes. One expert, Dr. Donald Belsito, suggests you wash because lice can linger in fabric. Yes lice.

There's no way of knowing how many people touched your new clothes, and Dr. Belsito reminds us that he has seen infestations other than lice, like scabies.

Belsito also points to dye and formaldehyde resin which can cause rashes, he suggests washing new clothes a couple of times to get this rinsed out.

Now, let me ask you again. You going to wash that?

If you're still not convinced let me tell you about the time I worked store security. Yes, a job where I manned the surveillance cameras. The gross things I've seen people do would make anyone want to boil their clothes before wearing. In one instance I witnessed a woman sneeze on her hand and wipe it all over a new shirt hanging on the rack. Need I say more? Also, stay away from unmonitored food samples.
