When you go to the Weather Underground site to check out the weather in Grand Rapids, the city's name shows up in Cyrillic, an alphabet used in Russia and Serbia.

Weird, to be sure, but why?

This photo of a screen shot of the popular weather site was recently posted to Reddit by SnappleBack, where the readers tried to figure out why this happens.

All the suburbs are in perfect English, while the words 'Grand Rapids' appear to have been converted to Cyrillic for reasons unknown. Initial thoughts were that it was Russian, but a quick trip to Google translate proved that wrong.

In Google translate, Grand Rapids translates to Великие пороги in Russian. But in Serbian, it comes out just like on the map, Гранд Рапидс.

And this weird anomoly also shows up on weather.com.

The theories range from 'sleeper cells' to the web developers being from Serbia, who just left the code in Cyrillic, perhaps as a shout out to a relative or two in GR.

At any rate, dosvedanya, tovarisch. And hats off to our large Serbian population here in GR.
