Western Michigan University has become the latest campus in Michigan to go 100% tobacco-free.

The policy applies to all students, faculty and staff as well as visitors and contractors working on campus. The only exception to the campus wide mandate is that smoking is allowed in enclosed personal vehicles.

WMU’s policy will also prohibit the use of e-cigarettes.

With this move, Western becomes the 25th college or university in the state to go smoke-free or tobacco-free and the eighth to ban e-cigarettes.

The university defines tobacco products as the following: cigarettes, electronic-cigarettes, cigars, bidis, snuff, snus, water pipes, pipes, hookahs, chew and any other non-combustible tobacco products.
