Take a look at your child's phone. Is there an app on it called Yik-Yak? One west Michigan school district is cracking down on its use.

The app allows users to post anything anonymously, and see things that other's post within a certain radius. Think of it as an anonymous message board for real life. Sounds cool, but the anonymous part of this has schools concerned. Simply put, when people don't need to attach their name to their thoughts, things get nasty.

The app gives schools the ability to request a geo-fence to limit its use on school grounds. Think of this as a virtual perimeter. Pennfield schools in Calhoun County have already jumped on board.

If this is becoming an issue at your child's school, read up on Yik-Yak here.
