Prior to about a month ago, I would have told you and everyone else I know that I am not a runner. In fact, there are still days now that I would tell you all that I am not a runner. But, I am one. Why? Because sometimes I run. And because I'm training to run the Gazelle Girl Half Marathon and 5k on April 13th! (I'm training for the 5k, not the half marathon. I'm not THAT much of a runner.)

What is the Gazelle Girl? Well, it's a lot of things. First off, it's a half marathon (which is full) or a 5k (which you can still sign up for here). But it's far more than that. It's the first race comprised solely of women in the state of Michigan. It's empowering a lot of women to get out and do their first race (like me). And, it's celebrating the 40th anniversary of Title IX, the law that made discrimination between men’s and women’s educational programs illegal. Title IX had its largest impact by expanding female sports at the high school and collegiate level.

Now, you may be saying, "But Wendy, I'm not a runner at all!". My answer to that is: if you have ever run, even once, you are a runner. I'm a runner. I may not be a fast runner, or the best runner, but if you just get out there and run, you are a runner. The Gazelle Girl is a perfect opportunity for you to get out there are do your first 5k. Why? There's no pressure. If you have to stop and walk, stop and walk. Want to bring your kids along and push them in their stroller? You can do that, too! Heck, if you want, you can walk the entire 5k. The Gazelle Girl is just about getting out and being active!

There has been a lot of work that has gone into transforming me from a relatively inactive person to a runner, and I'll be talking more about that in some blogs later this week. But, I wanted to let you all know WHY I'm now a runner, and to invite you to join me for the Gazelle Girl 5k on April 13th!

Want to be a part of it? Send and email to wendy@mychannel957.com, and you could win a free entry into the Gazelle Girl 5k!
