Wendy Answers Sex Questions From 7th Graders

flickr, stu_wp

There comes a time in every kid’s life when they become curious about the “birds and the bees”. An anonymous 7th grade teacher decided that she should have the kids in her class put their questions in a box on her desk (anonymously), so that their questions could be answered without them being embarrassed about asking them. The results are pretty awesome. And I thought I could help out by answering some of my favorites. Check them out after the jump.

Q: Is there ways to have a baby but without having sex?

Why yes, yes there are. It’s rather complicated to explain, but you can have a baby through invitro fertilization (which I’ve heard is rather pricey, and also time consuming, and sometimes heartbreaking). Also, while I suppose it’s not exactly “having a baby”, you can always adopt, or find a surrogate to carry your child to term for you.

Q: I heard that guys can have sex until they die. Is that true?

This one is a little trickier. Well, they can, but that doesn’t mean that they do, or they should. Some men can’t, as ED is rampant among the older male crowd, but there are drugs out there (like Viagra) that can help them out with that.

Q: What are the different kinds of sexes?

Ummm… I don’t know if I understand the question. If you’re talking about sexes of people (or creatures, I suppose), there are only two: male and female. If you’re talking about positions, well… I’m not at liberty to discuss those on here, but there’s a book out there that can help you out.

Q: Do ladies fart when they are going to have a baby?

Ladies don’t fart. Ever. Remember that.

Q: Why do we have to learn about the reproductive systems when these boys are immature?

Something you’ll learn eventually, sweetheart, is that boys will always be immature when it comes to the topic of sex. And that’s why it’s important that you learn about it.

I hope that I’ve helped these kids (though I probably haven’t), but this just goes to show that it’s important that we let kids know that it’s OK to ask questions about sex.  Otherwise, they may go their entire lives wondering “how sperms move”.
