The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for most of West Michigan starting Thursday, December 8th at 12:01am.

Here is the advisory issued for Kent County:

Winter weather advisory in effect from midnight tonight to 4PM EST Friday. The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a winter weather advisory, which is in effect from midnight tonight to 4PM EST Friday.

Hazardous Weather: Snow showers will increase in coverage and intensity after midnight tonight. Snowfall totals of 2 to 6 inches are possible by Friday evening. The heaviest snow will occur in the southwest corner of the county. Gusty west to northwest winds 15 mph to 30 mph will produce blowing and drifting snow. The heavy lake effect snow bands will cause abrupt changes in visibility with near whiteout conditions possible.

Impacts: Roads will become snow covered and slippery, especially for the Thursday morning commute. Commute times to destinations will become longer than normal. Visibilities could drop to near zero at times under the heavier bands and in blowing and drifting snow.

Precautionary / Preparedness Actions: The Michigan Department of Transportation reminds motorists to adjust speeds based on the conditions and to take it slow in ice and snow.
