UICA Offers Free Admission At New Location On Sunday
The Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts has moved into their new location at 2 West Fulton Street. They held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday. On Sunday, the public will have a chance to view their new home for free at Community Day.
Community Day is Sunday, July 31st, from 2:00pm to 7:00pm. You may take a self-guided tour or allow a docent to lead you through the new building. The first exhibitions will be available for viewing as well as the film theatre, ceramic studio, and more. Admission is free.
The UICA was founded in 1977. They had been at their previous location on Sheldon since 1998. The new location features: 8,500 sq ft of gallery space, 2 theatres, a 4,000 sq ft outdoor sculpture terrace, and much more.
The UICA has been one of the hidden gems of Grand Rapids for years. With their new location they will no longer be hidden and word is bound to get out. That’s a good thing. I can’t wait to see their new home.
