Imagine sending a text to someone who passed away, what would you do if you got a reply?

This exact exact scenario happened to the mother of a fallen Colorado State Trooper. Taylor Thyfault was 21 when he passed away. Thyfault was an Army veteran and was just wrapping up training with the Colorado State Patrol.

Thyfault was on a ride along with a senior officer when he was asked to deploy stop sticks to stop a vehicle that was fleeing from police. As the speeding car approached things went very wrong, the car was headed straight toward Thyfault, his senior officer and another man. Thyfault pushed one of the men out of the way, only to be struck himself. Sadly, Thyfault passed away at the scene, the other officer was critically injured.

Thyfault's mother, Carole Adler, was extremely close with her son. She was the last person he texted the day he died. Some time after her son's death, Adler sent his phone number a text, she got a reply.

The response came from Sergeant Kell Husley of the Greeley Police Department. It turns out he just bought a new phone with a new number, and was issued Thyfault's old number.

What are the odds another police officer would be issued that number?

Husley offered to get a new number but Adler told him to hold on to it because he was doing the job her son always wanted. The two continue to text encouraging words back and forth, Husley says it's like having an angel is in pocket.
