I love that the holiday season is here. People have a different aura about them. It almost seems as if people are in a better mood, you spend more time with family, eat great food, and partake in different festivities. But somewhere in between all that, take the time to visit these 9 cities in Michigan that really know what Christmas spirit is all about!

    Detroit

There's so much to do in Detroit that people don't realize!

Each year, the cultural institutions open up free to the public to get a peek inside for Noel Night. You can do shopping, family craft activities, see holiday carolers and lights, also check out one of the hundreds of shows put on by musical acts and theater groups.

My personal favorite is to go ice-skating at Campus Martius Park. It's absolutely BEAUTIFUL!

    Frankenmuth

I'm honestly surprised Frankenmuth is only at #8 because it is one of my favorite places to go during the holidays.

Bronner's at Frankenmuth is known to be a Christmas Wonderland. The store is as big as 1 1/2 football fields! It has anything and everything imaginable.

    Grand Rapids

I'm LOVING the way Downtown GR looks right now. It immediately puts you in the holiday mood when driving through.

Grand Rapids made the list because of all the options to choose from this season. From concerts, to musicals, parades and, of course, ice-skating at Rosa Parks Circle there is a lot to do in GR during Christmastime. Also get all of your holiday shopping done at Tanger Outlets.

    Christmas

Of course the city with the same name as the holiday has to be on the list!

Tucked away in the U.P., Christmas celebrates Christmas year-round. It was started in 1938 as a roadside factory for making holiday gift items but now is made up of businesses all with Christmas and Santa themes.

    Holland

Not only is Holland known for Tulip Time, but also Christmastime!

They've got the annual Parade of Lights event, a Christmas pageant, holiday exhibits and shopping all season long, and of course Dutch WinterFest.

    Mackinac Island

Mackinac Island is one of my favorite places in Michigan but most vacation there during the summertime.

HGTV once named Mackinac Island as one of the top 10 Christmas towns in the country.

The annual Christmas bazaar is being held December 5-7

For three days people meet, talk, bid, eat, bargain hunt, and buy..."

to raise money for the local churches and medical center.

With no cars on the island, you can walk, snowshoe or take a horse-drawn carriage through the snow.

    Traverse City

The holiday season kicks off December 4th with Santa's Arrival, Tree Lighting & Holiday Open House in Downtown Traverse City.

There's lots of shopping and dining to go through during the winter season. It's also the perfect place for all the fun snow activities like skiing and snowmobiling.

Traverse City even holds the annual Cherry-T Ball Drop on New Year’s Eve!

    Rochester

This is definitely one of my favorite places to drive through during Christmas.

Every building in Downtown Rochester is COVERED in more than one million lights of all color! You can enjoy the Big, Bright Light Show everyday from 5p.m. until midnight.

The 64th Rochester Hometown Parade will be Sunday, December 6th.

    Dearborn

Greenfield Village at Henry Ford Museum is the place to be this Christmas season!

Holiday Nights at Greenfield Village is every weekend in December and features a lantern-lit journey into a living snow globe filled with live music, skating, and fireworks.

You should definitely set aside a weekend to take a trip here this month.
