Just when you think that you have heard it all, a story like this comes along. The Chief of Nepal's Mountaineering association says Human waste left by climbers on Mount Everest has become a very big problem. Really?

He states:

“Climbers usually dig holes in the snow for their toilet use and leave the human waste there the waste has been “piling up” for years around the four camps."

The problem stems from the over 700 climbers and guides who leave large amounts of feces and urine, while spending nearly two months on Everest’s slopes each year in an attempt to reach the top.

This is causing pollution and threatening to spread disease. The camps located at the base and the summit do have tents and some essential equipment and supplies, but do not have toilets.

Nepal’s government has not come up with a plan yet to tackle the issue of human waste.
