Meryl Streep announced Sunday night's "In Memoriam" segment on the Oscars. She led with the words: "A single person is missing for you and the whole world is empty."

The honorees shown in the video tribute included Robin Williams, Maya Angelou, Mickey Rooney, James Garner, Lauren Bacall, Ruby Dee, Eli Wallach, Bob Hoskins, "Graduate" director Mike Nichols, "Jurassic Park" director Richard Attenborough and Williams' "Moscow on the Hudson" director Paul Mazursky.

And that was followed by Jennifer Hudson singing "I Can't Let Go," which was a song she did on "Smash."

Here's the "In Memoriam" segment:

One of the celebrities who wasn't mentioned was Joan Rivers. And a lot of people consider that a big snub since Rivers was a red carpet fixture at the major award shows for more than 20 years. Some people are also bothered that Elaine Stritch, who played Alec Baldwin's mother on "30 Rock," wasn't mentioned.

Melissa Rivers paid tribute to her mom during the red carpet coverage on "Entertainment Tonight."
