This last year we have seen nothing but garbage reported on the news about police officers. This type of reporting is dangerous, as such reports give a false perception that all police officers are gun happy racists. The Good Cop project tells a different story.

The project, which is a collaboration between the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety and Kalamazoo's Rhino Media, launched earlier this week. The Good Cop sets out to highlight the good that officers do every day in their communities.

We felt like we should do something. So we did. We are a group of creative professionals in Kalamazoo, Michigan who wanted to get involved in lifting up police officers. The Good Cop is a passion project for us; we've received no government funding. We're using our talents and our voice as best we know how. -TheGoodCop.Org

The project features the website TheGoodCop.org, a Facebook page, and encourages the use of #GoodCop for Twitter when citizens encounter a good cop. You can even nominate a good cop here.

The short 7 minute film, which you can watch above, is nothing but powerful. It features officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety talking about their jobs, their careers, what they deal with, and cases that have really stuck with them.

This video and the site are real eye openers, which remind us that those who put the badge on everyday are human. Police officers are not naive, they know there are some bad apples (as in every aspect of life), but they are few and far between.

Here's the report from Fox 17.
