I've come down with one of those dreaded "summer colds". I tried to play it off at first. "It's just allergies," I told myself. Unfortunately, that's not so. The coughing, sneezing, sore throat and ears... yeah, can't deny it any longer.

Summer colds are the worst, and contrary to popular belief, colds aren't just common in the fall and winter. The truth is since a cold is a virus, you can catch one anytime of the year, so be prepared year round. I did some digging around and found some great remedies for the summer cold (or a cold any time).

1) Make sure you get a lot of Vitamin C. Vitamin C will help shorten the length of a cold. Try drinking cold drinks such as orange juice or grapefruit juice. If all else fails, pick up some vitamin C at the drug store.

2) Try using a humidifier. They're great in the summer time because they don't add any heat to the room and they cleans the air. You're probably not going to want to use them on extremely humid nights, however.

3) Honey is a great remedy if you have a sore throat along with your cold. You can add it to almost anything including pancakes, peanut butter sandwiches, or tea.

4) Get plenty of rest. Whether you're sick or not, a good night’s sleep always improves a person’s overall health.

Hopefully this has helped you out. I'm off to eat some vitamin C coated in honey.
