The Butterflies Will be Flying at Meijer Gardens Beginning Tomorrow

Can you belive 7,000 tropical butterflies will be flying about at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park beginning tomorrow, March 1?

How exciting that they're baaaack!

The annual Fred & Dorothy Fichter Butterflies Are Blooming exhibition with butterflies from  Africa, Asia, South and Central America, is the largest temporary tropical butterfly exhibition in the nation.

Approximately 60 colorful species will fly freely in the five-story Lena Meijer Tropical Conservatory. Okay it's a little warm and sticky in there, at 85 degrees and 70 percent humidity, but this balmy environment mimics the tropical regions the butterflies arrive from and they love it.

“This year, our exhibition is truly a feast for the eyes,” explained Steve LaWarre, director of horticulture. “We’ve added more tropical blooms for butterflies to nectar on as well as to enhance the overall experience.”

This much-loved exhibition attracts more than 170,000 visitors from all over the nation every year.
