Google Fiber Passes on Grand Rapids

Despite the city's best efforts, Google has passed on Grand Rapids being the test market for its new Google Fiber. They announced today that they will be launching the project in Kansas City, Kansas.

Google Fiber will provide a faster connection than most typical internet connections. Google hopes to begin building the network by the end of the year and that service should begin in the first quarter of 2012, with plans to roll out to all communities in Kansas City. Once the service is live pricing will be “competitive to what people are paying for Internet access today” though Google hasn’t yet named the plans.

Rumor: Cash Cab In Grand Rapids?

Discovery Channel's hit show "Cash Cab" is rumored to be coming to Grand Rapids April 12-16. While I was unable to find out if there really is any truth the the rumor, I did discover that, among other things, it has its own Facebook page.

The Facebook page claims that they are giving away a guaranteed ride in the cash cab to one lucky winner.

Laughfest Community Kick Off Party

Laughfest officially kicks off at 7:30pm tonight at Rosa Parks Circle!  The festivities at Rosa Parks will include an attempt to break Guinness World Record for tossing rubber chickens.  Everyone is welcome, so you can stroll downtown and lob some rubber chickens around in attempt to beat the Guinness Record.  The previous record was 265 people tossing chickens and Laughfest organizers hope to draw 500 people to participate.
