On March 11th, we spoke with:

  • Artist/musician Rick Beerhorst

Rick is a well respected Grand Rapids painter, printmaker, he's participated in ArtPrize for the past 3 years; Plan B, his 2010 entry, won the Best Use of Urban Space Award.  He also fronts the indie rock band, The Wealthy Orphan.

Rick and I chat about what inspired him to pursue both art and music, his experiences over the last 3 years as an ArtPrize artist, his band The Wealthy Orphans and their current release "A Little Piece of Pie," how creativity in music fuels creativity in art and vice versa, creating successful working relationships between artists and corporations, selling artwork direct versus working with galleries and his experiences in New York.
