  • Mark Sellers - HopCat & GR Brewing Company
  • Jason Spauling - Brewery Vivant
  • Tom Sluiter - Old Markey Pub & Brewery in Portland, Oregon

I'm joined by Mark Sellers of HopCat and the soon to be open Grand Rapids Brewing Company, Jason Spaulding of Brewery Vivant and my good friend Tom Sluiter, of Old Market Pub & Brewery in Portland, Oregon.

We chat about the experience each of their locations offers its patrons, what attracted each of them to the beer business, the transformation of the Brewery Vivant building from a place that once housed a funeral home to a brewery and what the beer scenes were like in Grand Rapids and Portland back in 2002 when Tom moved there.

Tim also speaks about how many breweries and pubs Portland sustains and how many Grand Rapids may be able to sustain as it grows as a beer city, the pairing of beer with food, Mark's soon to be opened Grand Rapids Brewing Company on the corner of Ionia and Fulton and what's planned for there, differences in regional beer styles from Grand Rapids and Portland and upcoming beer trends.

Finally we discuss what it means for Brewery Vivant to be the first LEED certified brewery in the country, get advice from Tom for home brewers and more…
