Michigan State hosted a basketball game against Georgia Sunday afternoon at Van Andel Arena to raise money for disaster relief through the American Red Cross.

WZZM13 reports the game, which was put together last minute and had both teams agreeing to pay for their own travel & operational costs, raised just over $330,000 - $339,448.90 to be exact, for disaster relief.

According to WZZM13 tickets sold out almost immediately when the game was announced Monday, October 23rd.  Grand Rapids-Kent County Convention/Arena Authority Chairman and MSU alumnus Steve Heacock told WZZM13:

“We know West Michigan loves their Spartans, and we were certain that this community would jump at a chance to support communities recovering from recent disasters,”

Not only did West Michigan step up to help out by showing up, but WZZM13 says so did MSU which offered up their floor for the game and Meijer who donated a truck to bring the floor to Grand Rapids and then back home.
