I’ve always found it weird that there wasn’t a place to grab some groceries or toiletries downtown Grand Rapids. Well, in the year and a half I’ve been here I’ve found it weird and inconvenient.

That’s about to change with Russo’s international Market opening downtown where Bagger Dave’s used to be on Fulton street.

“Since opening in 1905, my grandfather made it his mission to serve the Grand Rapids community in any way he could. Our first location was on Division Street, in what was known as ‘Little Italy.’ When we needed more room, we moved twice and eventually opened up on 29th Street, which is currently our main location” said Phil Russo, president of Russo’s International Market. “We always knew we would return to our roots and this second location will allow us to serve the downtown community as we once did 112 years ago.”

The downtown location will not only offer produce and dairy staples but will also a large deli case filled with different meats and a huge selection of cheeses from around the world, as well as other grocery items you’ll need.    They’ll also have a large selection of craft beers, a huge variety of wines and more.

The downtown location of Russo’s International market will also feature to-go menu items as well as a 60 seat dine-in area and a 20 seat patio.  They’ll also have a coffee, espresso and cappuccino bar by local roaster Herman’s Boy and a gelato bar. So this will be somewhere you can stop in real quick or take a break while downtown.

The store celebrates their grand opening Saturday, September 23rd and will be open from 7:30 am to 11:00 pm and then during ArtPrize they’ll be open Monday – Thursday 7:30 am to 10 pm, Friday and Saturday from 7:30 am to 11 pm and Sundays 9 am – 9 pm.
