Sheriff’s Department Warns Public Of Jury Duty Scam
The Kent County Sheriff's Department says scammers are using jury duty to steal money from citizens.
WOOD-TV 8 reports scammers are calling around telling people they didn't show up for jury duty and that money is now owed.
Scammers tell the victim to purchase a prepaid debit card and give the card numbers to them over the phone. The scammer then gets access to the money.
WOOD-TV explains that courts will not contact citizens by phone in regards to jury duty. Police ask that you contact them if you receive a call such as the one described.
