Sesame Street Premieres on HBO [Video]

Sesame Street officially debuted on HBO on Saturday, and with the new station format came some well-timed updates to Sesame Street.

Don't worry, it's still very much the Sesame Street you grew up on, but now it just looks a little more like many neighborhoods do today. Hooper's Store has gotten an updated paint job, Oscar now has a trash can and a recycling bin, and you can now see a bridge off in the distance from Elmo's apartment window.

In a recent New York Times article, Carmen Osbahr (the puppeteer behind Rosita) said, "It is more like things look now. When Sesame Street was created, it was kind of more like New York Bronx. Now, Oscar has a recycling can. That is amazing."

The show has also been broken down into two, half-hour-long episodes, rather than one, hour-long episode. HBO's new Sesame Street will also focus more on a handful of main characters, like Elmo, Cookie Monster, Rosita, and Abby, while, as Gawker states, "Big Bird, Mr. Snuffleupagus, Oscar the Grouch, and Bert and Ernie 'still make appearances.'"

For those of you who want to watch the new Sesame Street but don't have HBO, fear not. The new episodes will trickle down to PBS and will be broadcast there in approximately 9 months.
