• Critics weren’t exactly kind to Brad Pitt’s “World War Z” zombie picture, but it just passed the $497.3 million mark, making it his biggest movie ever.
• Simon Cowell and Howard Stern have tied for the top spot on Forbes’s new list of the highest paid TV personalities in America. The record label boss and TV talent show mogul made $95 million, making him the joint number one earner along with Stern.
• Just because a movie doesn’t do well here in the U.S. doesn’t mean it’s a world-wide flop. Case in point — the #1 movie around the world over the weekend: “Smurfs 2.”
• A stage musical of the TV show “Glee” is being prepared for Broadway.
• After 10 years of holding the Komen 3-Day walk in Chicago, this past weekend was the last time the event will be held in the Windy City. Just not getting the participation they need to sustain it.
• Sylvester Stallone is adding a little Latin flavor to the forthcoming “The Expendables” sequel after recruiting Antonio Banderas to join his all-star line-up.
• September 10th is the date Apple will unveil its next incarnation of the iPhone.
• Amanda Bynes is going to remain under medical care as legal control over her person and estate is temporarily handed to her mother, Lynn.
• Ashley Tisdale is now off the market! The actress is now engaged to musician Christopher French.
• The American Academy of Pediatrics is recommending that children aged two and older watch no more than two hours of television per day. They also recommend that children under two watch no television at all. According to a new study, even one hour more a day can diminish a preschooler’s vocabulary and math skills as well as classroom attention.
• Lea Michele made her first public appearance following the death of her co-star and real-life boyfriend Cory Monteith at Sunday night’s Teen Choice Awards.
• The next couple of nights, you could see some shooting stars, thanks to the annual Perseid Meteor Shower.
