The University of Missouri-Columbia did a study of what personalities people believe they have when they are drunk. Psychologists gave 364 men and women two personality tests, once when they considered themselves normal, and once when they considered themselves under the influence of alcohol. They determined that most people fall into four categories.

The categories are:

  • The Hemingway: lots of drinks, not much change. These people are more reliable, and can better understand abstract ideas
  • The Nutty Professor: with more drinks, the liquid courage grows. This group of people are typically introverted sobers, and extroverted drunks
  • Mary Poppins: non-confrontational drinkers. Typically females, these people remain compassionate and are responsible consumers
  • Mr. Hyde: very aggressive drunks. They become less intelligent and more argumentative.
