Michigan might be a step closer to huge craters being paved over.

Fox 17 reports Michigan lawmakers worked Wednesday night to approve multiple bills that should raise the $1.2 billion needed to fix roads in Michigan.

The bills would raise vehicle registration fees by 40%, starting in October of 2016. This would also cause the diesel tax to rise 4 cents a gallon in October of 2017. Tax on gasoline would then rise by 3.3 centers per gallon in 2018.

It's expected that the plan would be phased in over the next 5 years.
