The Rapid bus service will begin making regular trips to Big Rapids on August 29.  The trips are the result of a collaboration between The Rapid and Ferris State University.

The bus will depart from The Rapid central station downtown and will run Monday-Friday during the spring and fall semesters.  Scheduled arrivals to the main campus are 7:45am, 10:30am, 5:05pm, and 7:45pm.  Total hours of operation are from 6:25am - 9:05pm.  All trips will include at stop at the Cedar Springs Meijer.

The trips are designed for students, but anyone can ride.  Students may purchase a semester long pass for $700.  Anyone may purchase a one-way trip for $8.  The bus will have space to seat 40 with standing room for 20.

The bus could have a major impact on Kent County FSU students who had previously been required to live on campus.

Ferris.edu says:

Students required to live on campus for the fall and spring semesters who are interested in enrolling in the bus ridership program will be released from their housing obligation if they meet the eligibility  requirement (Kent County permanent address) and their student accounts show  they have purchased a shuttle bus card each semester.
