Restaurant Week Grand Rapids kicked off on Wednesday, August 15th, and I couldn't wait another day to try out some of the awesome local menus participating restaurants had prepared for the 10-day celebration. I decided to check out The Green Well Gastro Pub, a place that I had heard a lot about, but had never actually visited. Now, the Restaurant Week people encourage you to make reservations, and you can try, but some restaurants (like The Green Well) don't take reservations for parties under 6. After a 45 minute wait (it's ok, we just got a few cocktails at the bar), we were seated, and ready to enjoy some of the great food that The Green Well is known for.

Atmosphere

First of all, let's talk about the atmosphere. If you've never been in to The Green Well, you absolutely need to check it out. Located on Cherry St. right there in Eastown, The Green Well features art from a ton of local artists, as well as just an overall fun feel. Even, my boyfriend, Chris, who is admittedly a "sports bar kind of guy" loved the atmosphere at The Green Well.

Beer & Wine

Then, there's the beer and wine selection. Oh. My. God. My inner beer-lover rejoiced when I saw the extensive menu of both Michigan beers and micro-brews from around the country. I went with the Short's Brewing Nicie Spicie, a seasonal spiced wheat ale. My boyfriend stuck with his usual Oberon, and then switched to a darker beer (the name of which escapes me at the moment).

Course 1

We perused the menu (though I had already pretty much decided what I wanted), and I asked some questions of our awesome and very knowledgeable server before making my final selection. For my starter, I went with the Otto's Family Farm Chicken Salad, while my boyfriend went for the Local Tomato & Watermelon  Gazpacho. Now, I'm generally not a huge fan of chicken salad that has fruit in it, but let me tell you, the fruit didn't over-power the taste of the chicken at all. The flavors worked really well together and I was super happy with the combo (plus the cornbread!). The tomato and watermelon gazpacho (which I was only able to steal a small taste of) was equally awesome.

Main Course

For the main course, I went with the S&S Farms Lamb Sirloin. It was paired with barley and local cherry tomato risotto, crumbled bleu cheese, balsamic reduction. And, just like my starter, it was A-MAZING. And, a ton of food. I actually have some risotto sitting in my fridge at home now that I'm hoping to enjoy later tonight. My boyfriend went with the Green Well BBQ Brisket, which came with an awesome potato salad, and corn on the cob. We were both full and happy after our main courses.

Dessert

Which leads me to dessert. I have no idea how it tastes, and I didn't take a picture (though I have to assume it's awesome, just like everything else), because I was far too full to eat it, as was my boyfriend. So, I'll be enjoying some Peach Cobbler Dump Cake tonight after dinner while my boyfriend tries out the Chocolate Stout Cake.

Needless to say, The Green Well Gastro Pub was an awesome choice for my first evening of Restaurant Week Grand Rapids, and I'll be sure to return their in the future. In fact, the manager informed me that they regularly offer 3 course meals at a low price on Sundays, year-round.
