Newaygo County Emergency Management is advising people that live along the Muskegon River, downstream of Croton to prepare to evacuate immediately.

Newaygo County EMS sent out the message through the National Weather Service.

River stages are approaching 12 feet and will be cresting over 13 feet. Flood stage for the Muskegon River in that area is nine feet.

Officials say they expect to keep the flood warning in effect at least into next week.

As of 9:45am, the gauge at Croton was at 11.75 feet. That's higher than any levels seen last year.
