Polly Bergen, a veteran actress whose career spanned several decades, has died at the age of 84.

CNN reports that her death was confirmed by a publicist. Bergen passed away at her home in Southbury, Connecticut, on Saturday morning.

Her most recent notable role was the character of Stella Wingfield on 'Desperate Housewives' between 2007 and 2011 where she played the recurring role of Felicity Huffman's character, Lynette. She also had a recurring role on the short-lived Geena Davis show, 'Commander in Chief.'

Bergen won an Emmy for her role as Helen Morgan in the anthology series 'Playhouse 90' in 1958.

In addition to being a television star, Bergen also was remembered for her film works as well. Her most famous silver screen part was in the original 1962 'Cape Fear' movie co-starring Gregory Peck. Peck played a lawyer who finds that his family is being stalked by a man he helped put in jail.

We send our condolences to the Bergen family.
