The driver didn't know it was illegal...

Four puppies that were found in a cage strapped to the top of a minivan Friday afternoon were rescued by police after motorists along I-76 in Ohio frantically alerted police via 911.

Akron police say the driver of the van didn't know it was illegal to transport dogs in such a manner, luckily the puppies were not injured. The driver, according to police, was about one hour into a 300-mile trip from Ohio to Pennsylvania.

All puppies were released to police and taken to a local veterinarian, the driver wasn't ticketed or charged.
