In what will surely become one of the most effective campaigns to make money ever, Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon have announced the director for an upcoming film featuring characters from Nick's most popular, old (read: mostly 90's) cartoons. See the Rugrats, CatDog, Rocko, Hey Arnold, and more in a movie together? Yes please!

According to Deadline, "Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon have set Jared Hess to direct NickToons, a feature that he’ll write with Jarusha Hess, his wife and writing partner on films including Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre." That's right; the people responsible for Napoleon Dynamite are going to be in charge of a movie containing a variety of classic Nickelodeon cartoons. The stars have aligned; a more perfect matchup cannot possibly exist.

The Deadline article continues, "Anybody in their 20s, or their parents, won’t need a primer for the signature Nickelodeon characters that will be part of the film at this point: Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy, Rocko’s Modern Life, Aaahh! Real Monsters, and The Angry Beavers. ...All are part of the vast Nickelodeon character library from the past 25 years that can be exploited to frame an original story the studio hopes will spark a franchise."

The film, which will supposedly be a Who Framed Roger Rabbit? type of movie with Nickelodeon characters, will undoubtedly contain more cartoons than just those listed above.

There's no word yet on when the movie will be released, so for now, we'll just have to dig out our orange VHS tapes and relive the 90's by ourselves.
